Licenses

Marriage Licenses - You may obtain a license up to 60 days before the ceremony, but not less than 24 hours. The bride and groom must both be present. Identification is required (driver's license, passport or other photo ID plus birth certificate). If either party has been married previously, we need to see divorce papers or a death certificate. The cost of the marriage license is $40.00. Couples will receive a Certificate of Marriage Registration within 4 weeks of the ceremony. Those who do not should notify the clerk who issued the license. Additional certified copies may be obtained from the Clerk for a fee of $10.00.

Sporting Licenses - during the hunting and fishing season, conservation licenses may be obtained from the Office of the Town Clerk. A previous hunting license, or a Hunter training certificate must be presented to the clerk, along with proof of NY State residency to obtain a license to hunt. To obtain a fishing license, you must also provide proof of NYS residency. Special licenses to fish in the Tomhannock Reservoir are available by calling 237-0319. This is an annual fee and runs the calendar year, check the cost with the Town Clerk's office.

Dog Licenses - Puppies 6 months old must be licensed. Proof of spay/neutering and rabies immunization is required. The fee to license a spayed or neutered dog is $6.00. The fee for those that have not been spayed or neutered is $14.00.

Other Services

HVCC Certificate of Residency - The applicant must show proof of NYS residency within the past year and Rensselaer County residency within the past 6 months.

Notary Public - Janet Salisbury and Nancy Harder are Notaries at the Town Hall.

Disabled Parking Hang Tag - Town residents may obtain a handicap parking permit by provide a signed application from their physician. If your physician doesn't have an application one can be obtained from the Town Clerk's Office.

NYS Voter Registration Forms - NYS Voter Registration forms are available at the Town Clerk's Office. You may use the voter registration application to register to vote in NYS, to change your name and/ or address if you are already registered to vote, to enroll in a political party, or to change your enrollment. If you wish to vote in an election, you must mail the registration from to the Rensselaer County Board of Elections no later than 25 days before the election in which you vote.

Street Light Outages - Please report any outages or problems with street lights in your area by contacting the Town Clerk's office. A pole number must be provided.

Water Billing - All water billing for the residents who are on a town water system are billed for their water through the Town Clerk's Office twice annually.

Records Management - All town records are maintained in the Town Clerk's Office, including all town ordinances, Laws, fiscal reports and maps.

What is acceptable Proof of Residency for NYS?
There are two categories of acceptable proof of residency:
1. A current NY Driver's license or one or more of the following items in addition to the affidavit.
- non-driver's ID card that shows residency in NYS
- W-2 Income Tax Form or NYS-IT-201 Income Tax Form
- Current Voter Registration Card
- Bank Statements
- Utility Bill
- Major Credit Card Bill

2. Plus and affidavit properly sworn and executed by the applicant which affirms that his/her legal residence during the preceding 30-day period has been within NYS.
