Town of Schaghticoke Tax Collectors Notice for 2012

 

 

PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL TAX COLLECTIONS WILL BE AT TOWN HALL ONLY

 

The Tax Collector for the Town of Schaghticoke will sit for the collection of Town and County taxes at the following location:

 

Schaghticoke Town Hall, Route 40 & Northline Drive, Melrose

 

During JANUARY: Every MONDAY (except holidays): 9:00AM- 1:00PM

 

Every WEDNESDAY: 1:00PM-4:30PM

 

Every FRIDAY: 9:00AM-1:00PM

 

(Beginning January 4th and continuing through February 1st)

 

Please note that because January 1st is a Sunday, Wednesday February 1st will be the last penalty free day.

 

During FEBRUARY, AND MARCH taxes will be collected as follows:

 

Every MONDAY(except holidays): 9:00AM - 1:00PM at Schaghticoke Town Hall, Route 40 and Northline Drive, Melrose

 

Every FRIDAY: 9:00AM- 1:00PM at Schaghticoke Town Hall, Route 40 and Northline Drive, Melrose

 

(Beginning February 3rd and continuing through April 2nd)

Please note that because March 31st is a Saturday, Monday April 2nd will be the last collection day.

 

Taxes can be paid in person at Schaghticoke Town Hall or by mailing to the address above.

 

IF YOU WOULD LIKE A RECEIPT OF PAYMENT YOU MUST BRING OR MAIL THE ENTIRE TAX STATEMENT.

Payments will be accepted in any of the following forms: Cash, Personal Check, Bank Check, or Money Order. No credit cards.

 

Timely payment of property taxes is the responsibility of the property owner. By tax law, failure to receive a tax bill "shall not in any way affect the validity of the taxes or interest

 

Taxes received and/or postmarked January 1st - February 1st will be received without penalty.

Taxes received and/or postmarked February 2nd - February 29th will have a penalty of 1% added.

Taxes received and/or postmarked March 1st - April 2nd will have a penalty of 2% added.

Taxes postmarked on or after April 3rd can not be accepted and will be returned to the taxpayer.

 

All UNPAID taxes will be returned to the Rensselaer County Chief Fiscal Officer [(518)-270-2754] for collection with additional penalty.

 

ALL TAXPAYERS PLEASE NOTE

 

Effective June 1, 1990 Real Property Tax Law 987 requires Tax Collecting Officers to send a notice of unpaid taxes to each taxpayer whose taxes have not been paid. The notices must be sent on or after the 31st day after the interest free tax payment period ends. The expense of mailing this notice is set at TWO dollars and is an additional penalty chargeable against the parcel.

 

Questions concerning valuation, boundaries, and transfer of ownership and/or eligibility for Senior Citizens Exemptions should be taken up with the Assessor. Senior Citizens have until March 1, 2012 to apply for such exemptions.
